LEVEL I Introduction to Animal Cruelty Investigations
Topics will include:
-The Roles and Responsibilities of a Cruelty Investigator & Utilizing Local, State and National Resources (Joanne Bourbeau)
-Various Vermont Laws Dealing with Animals (Joanne Bourbeau)
-Elements of a Criminal Investigation (Trevor Whipple)
-Vermont’s Cruelty Response System (CRS) (Jill Tucker)
-Animal Husbandry Practices: Walking the Line between Education and Seizure (Dr. Janet Carini)
LEVEL II * -Advanced Animal Cruelty Investigations
*You must have completed a Level I course at a workshop presented by the Vermont Humane Federation or the Vermont Animal Cruelty Task Force in order to participate in Level II. Call 802-368-2790 to verify prior attendance requirements.
Topics will include:
-The First Strike: Exploring the Connection between Animal Cruelty and Human Violence (Joanne Bourbeau)
-Handling Wildlife Cruelty Complaints (JoAnn Nichols)
-Animal Hoarding: Handling Large-Scale Animal Cruelty Investigations (Joanne Bourbeau)
-Working with the Agency of Agriculture on Livestock Complaints (Darryl Keuhne)
-Equine Cruelty Investigations (with break) (Gina Brown)
-Animal CSI: Receiving & Investigating a Complaint (all)

Large Animal Technical Rescue Training: Sept. 6th in Randolph, VT
The Vermont Horse Council is sponsoring their second Large Animal Technical Rescue Training. This event will be held at Rough Terrain Farm in Randolph, VT on September 6, 2008 and is open to all Vermont First Responders, Veterinarians, Disaster Animal Response Team participants, and others who may be called to an animal emergency (horse owners and other interested parties are invited to participate as auditors). This training will teach responders how to perform rescues in the most efficient manner while avoiding injury to both animal and responder.
This course will be held from 9:00am to 4:30pm and will encompass two areas: Horse Handling and Behavior, and Rescue.
